Tadashi Shoji's virtual Fall Winter 2021 presentation for New York Fashion Week was a cinematic experience full of glamour and edge. Set in a dystopian world, mirroring the dark times we're living in, the models looked fierce and warrior-esque in evening wear and lace up, leather boots. Suited up in chainmail masks, with disheveled hair, wearing gowns in embroidered metallic and bloody red, the women embodied resilience and valiance. Resembling glittering armor, the collection reminded me of the decadence of the Capitol in the Hunger Games where the contestants entered on their chariots in enchanting ensembles before their final fight. After the year we've all experienced following a worldwide pandemic, multiple lockdowns, and the storming of our Capital, I think we all can't wait to feel glamorous and step out of the year feeling like warriors.
