Maison Margiela AW19

John Galliano centered his autumn winter 2019 collection around a "purified sense of restraint". In a generation bombarded with images and an overload of stimuli, he wanted to step back and create a collection that isn't trend oriented nor promiscuous. He experimented with traditional fabrics in new cuts to create intricate pieces we've never seen before. With precision tailoring, Galliano transformed a trench coat into voluminous beige trousers. Many of pieces took on distinct forms shaping the body in intriguing ways.

Sticking to tonal colors of black, grey and ivory, Galliano devised each look to be gender neutral. Both male and female models showed off their silhouettes in dresses and suits alike.  Nevertheless, this collection wasn't completely devoid of color  tonal pieces exploded into a kaleidoscope of magenta and key lime green.  A basic grey coat bursted with flamingo print coordinating with the matching satin ankle boots.

John Galliano has always made fashion fun and compelling. With a strong commitment to his craft, Galliano showed us that simple pieces can be made into complex creations.
